    First, I want to say that if this course is as comprehensive as it looks from the outline, it looks like a pretty good one.

    Second, I've taken a couple chainsaw classes (level's 1 & 2) from these guys. Looks like Level 1 is equivalent to the class that the county is offering here. Is there, any sort of form I can fill out or someone to send a certification of completion from or something so I can be certified on County land?

    Dane County Chainsaw Safety Training Course

    WHAT: Chainsaw Safety Training Course (Pre-registration is required)

    WHY: Volunteers are required to take Chainsaw Safety Training Course before using a chainsaw in a Dane County Park.   
     
    WHEN: Saturday, January 31, 2015 from  8:30 am – 4:30 pm
    Course will start at 8:30 am and end by 4:30 pm. Attendance of the entire training  is required. The class will start promptly at 8:30. (Pending weather, the instructor may decide to have the hands-on training in the morning and direct the class to a location in Anderson Park.)
     
    WHERE: Lussier Family Heritage Center, 3101 Lake Farm Road Madison WI
    (A box lunch will be provided to all participants courtesy of Dane County Parks)
    In the afternoon, the class will have an outdoor hands-on training down the road at Lake Farm County Park at 4330 Libby Road Madison, WI.
     
    COST: $25 to be pre-paid before the class. Make check payable to Friends of Dane County Parks and send to Rhea Stangel-Maier, Dane County Parks, 5201 Fen Oak Drive #234, Madison WI 53718
     
    Applicants must be a volunteer with Dane County Parks, or our Partner Groups or a Dane County Parks Friends Group and plan to work on a Dane County Park property.

    This training class is being offered at a GREAT savings to volunteers who support Dane County Parks with land management projects. No refund will be issued unless a replacement is found to fill your spot.

    ·        Safety gear – chaps, hard-hat, safety glasses, hearing/ear protection, and steel-toed boots 
    ·        Your own chainsaw
    ·        Any questions you might have

    C. Employer's Responsibility
    D. Employee's Responsibility

    Muscle stretching and proper body mechanics

    Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    A. What is required and available
    B. PPE - importance and function
    C. First Aid kit

    Tools necessary to aid in safely felling trees
    A. Introduction to wedges
    B. Felling levers (when appropriate)
    C. Files, gauges, etc., to properly maintain saws

    Saws
    A. Safety features
    B. Reactive forces
    C. Reduced down time maintenance

    1.  Cutter: how it works and why it is important
    2.  Proper sharpening
    3.  Carburetor adjustment
    4.  How to maintain the saw, bar, and chain

    Move to outdoor field site. Instructor will address hazards observed as he enters the jobsite.

    Tree Felling (demonstration)

    A. Information before felling begins (plan)

    1. Hazards
    2. Escape route
    3. Proper notch
    4. Hinge and back cut

    B. Executing the plan

    Limbing, bucking, and topping (demonstration).

    Technique for releasing limbs and spring poles under pressure,

    Hands-on participation.

    Participants will have the opportunity to practice demonstrated techniques.

    Question and answer period.

    Frank, just get a us a copy of the cert, and we will put it in the file at the CR garage. Then you will be good to go.
