Next Trail Work Day Oct. 5th 11am

    September 17, 2014, 09:23 PM

Same plan as last time. Meet in the Seminole Bike Hub parking lot at 11 a.m. for coffee and donuts, a quick overview of the plan and a walk down to the trailhead. Long pants, boots, and work gloves are a good idea. Again, please bring yard rakes if you've got them. I hope to finish the corridor clearing and start the tread cutting this session.

Just a quick shout out to thank the CORP team for exhibiting at the 10th Annual Harvest Moon Festival, sponsored by the Friends of Capital Springs Recreation Area.  Tim B., Jon A., Nick C., and Wes L. put on a great show.  They had an awesome display showcasing the new Seminole Hill MTB trail (located in the Rec Area) and announcing the Trail Work Day on Sunday, Oct 5.  The best display item was Tim’s fatty with the lime green tires (???)—kids dragged their parents to our corner, screaming about Santa’s list.
The goal was to show CORP support of FOCSRA and appreciation for FOCSRA support for the new MTB trail.  Thumbs up from:
    •   Bill Lunney, Chair of Dane County Park Commission.
    •   Kevin Swenson, DNR Park Ranger at Blue Mounds State Park (pioneered Harvest Moon Festival)
    •   Rhea  Stangel-Maier, Volunteer Coordinator, Dane County Parks (“please make sure we document volunteer hours on Seminole Hills”)
    •   Matt Carlson, FOCSRA President (invited Tim to meet with Exec. Dir. of UW Arboretum)
    •   Exec. Dir., Madison Children’s Museum (potential sponsor of kid clinics)
    •   Dan Kirkman, FOCSRA Board
We actually scored lots of donations.
We are looking for volunteers for next year’s Harvest Moon Festival.  Absolutely great night for young family!  Tim’s one-year old was just a little too young to really appreciate the night, but his wife loved the wine basket they won in the silent auction.
Follow up plan is to invite the FOCSRA Board to walk the new Seminole Hills trail.  Also, we should think about a CORP meeting at the Lussier Center and night ride in the MMSD sludge pits (seriously).

Today's Seminole Trail workday was a great team effort.  Met some nice folks.  Thanks to Nick for teaching us a thing or two, and bringing tools, doughnuts, OJ and coffee.  This new 'urban' trail is pretty darn sweet and will make a fantastic complement to Q. Ridge -- just a mile away (up/down the Military Ridge Trail.)  Hope riders get a chance to give it a try before the snow flies.

Yes, another great Work Day today!

We worked our way around the EASY Loop, widening, smoothing, and trimming as we went. This trail is going to be fast!

Thanks to all the volunteers who came out.

One more day and I believe the EASY Loop will be finished.
