    Progress on west singletrack expansion!

    October 14, 2014, 10:26 AM

After a quick meeting with the Pleasant View Golf Course staff and City of Middleton, we've resolved the impediments to the west singletrack expansion and will be looking to move forward with machine work in the coming month or two!

Watch this space for more info!

More good news! I walked the trail with Mark Rochon last night to gauge the effort required and we got a sort of nice surprise in that the utility company is doing a "5 year maintenance" which involves clearing a corridor 25' from the center of the power lines (so that's ~50' wide). Some of our trail cutting is done for us. However, the rest of the cutting will be starting next week.

Now it should read serious progress. Mark your calendars for May 16 and the Tuesday work, ride and beverage sessions.

Around 3 miles of corridor is cleared, some major rock work done, some bench cut, rough berms, and mowing as an effort to make the finish work easier. It may look crude but will be finish work will be much easier.

We hope to rent a 2500 - 3500 mini ex prior to the big work day to work in the steep stuff. Smaller machine will also do more finish work. That machine might help Seminole.

The main work day is May 16, but any finish work will help if you're out there.

What was used to clear the tread in the grassy areas? That looks pretty nice!

This is M. Rochon's mega mower, not a scraping blade.

Our guess is it would have worked better if not right after the rain. No matter what a WHOLE LOT less muscle will be needed to establish trail tread, and anything around it will grow back fast.

Other areas were done with a somewhat large mini ex, and we'd like to share renting a smaller one with another trail area ASAP.

We certainly have the cost of machines and services but it appears what used to take years is getting done in weeks. It appears we'll benefit from lots of muscle doing finish work vs tiring ourselves just over the basics.

I hope MTB riders in the area are aware of our opportunities far exceeding our participation and income. It will be so awesome if the stage 2 at Seminole and Pleasant View are done in weeks vs years. Let's make this happen riders! www.madcitydirt.com/join and showing up to work will do it.

    :)

The single-track is rideable all the way to the end of the property.  Still alot of work to get it finished, but there is some good stuff developing.  The trail through the prairie needs riders to keep the prairie at bay, so come out and do the easiest trail work around.  If you combine this with Blackhawk, it is getting to be a reasonably long, widely varied, and pretty decent ride.

I haven't been out there yet. Is the singletrack marked or is it fairly clear where it goes?

There are a couple spots where you will be on the mowed two-track in the prairie where you need to keep an eye out for the re-entrance to single track, but mostly you can't miss it.
