The snow has arrived and I know people are anxious to get out riding. We want to update you on some new developments, largely as they pertain to the establishment of the new CXC trail head. In the next few days we will get signage out, as well as some annotated aerial photographs here, illustrating what is described below.
First, the CXC parking lot at the top of Schwartz Road is RESTRICTED TO SKIERS for this season. Fat bike users should park on Schwartz Road at the base of the hill (before passing the CXC gate) and ride up to the trail head. The city is aware that this is the plan and indicate it is no problem for people to park on the side of the road. The CXC parking lot is currently very small, and skiers pay a fee for access. The center is planning to expand parking this coming Spring/Summer, so hopefully this limitation will not exist next winter, but we'll see.
Second, when you arrive at the trail head, enter the gated corridor by the kiosk and immediately swing to the left (West - you'll undoubtedly see the tire tracks). Follow the fence around as it turns back to the south and proceed through a gap in the trees. You will find yourself on Fairway, and the route is largely the same as the single track the rest of the year. We intend to get all of this appropriately signed within the next few days.
Third, please recall that fat biking on the established ski trails is prohibited.
We will update you shortly on how to get involved in winter trail grooming. We are trying to finalize a centralized communication system for anyone interested in helping out.
