This is feeding my recent urges to pick up a high end vintage bike.  While in CO a few weeks ago we came across a couple on Trek carbon Y bike and a Proflex/K2 OZ (5000) that looked to pretty much all original, they were straight out of a late 90's MTB magazine center fold. The owner of the shop I worked at back in the day had one of those K2's and looking back it was a bike that was ahead of it's time, full carbon, full suspension (electronically dampened on both ends) and weighing in around 25lb.  If I came across one those for sale today it would be mighty tempting.

Only bummer is I fubar'd the fork and front wheel in a major wipe out at Indian Lake back in the day. It now has the same fork but in a chromed model. That sweet neon pink fork was the cherry on top though

I would be tempted by a classic steed as well if the price were right.  I find it funny and annoying that folks with these bikes think the value remains high, when the opposite is true.  Mountain bikes are constantly changing and getting better, wheel sizes, suspension, frame design, weight, etc.......If you want some resale value, buy a road bike, not much changing in the short term, just the paint.
By the way, anyone want to buy my vintage Haro Vector - it's got the killer Softride suspension stem....how does $700 sound :D
